My summary of the book
Winnie Zeng is about to face the most difficult challenge: middle school. There is a bake-off between her homeroom and her rival, David Zuo’s homeroom. Winnie finds her grandmother’s old cookbook. She decided to make mooncakes, and things started getting weird. Winnie’s grandmother is a spirit tied with her pet rabbit, and she is a shaman. Now it’s up to Winnie to eliminate class 1,2,3 spirits to become a proper shaman.
My thoughts
I love the cover of this book; it is amazingly drawn. The bunny on the book cover is so cute! The story is an epic humorous fantasy with references to Chinese mythology, Chinese food, comic books, and anime. The book even mentioned Sailor Moon, one of my favorite animes. There’s a recipe for mooncakes and red bean brownies. Winnie is amusing and an excellent cook. I would love to try her recipes in the book. The descriptions of the food are delicious.
