“Spine-chilling, well-written, and atmospheric”
My brief summary of the book
Molly and Michael, twelve-year-old sister and ten-year-old brother, are about to have the best summer of their lives when their mother announces that they will move into the country with Dave (their stepfather) and Heather (their mean stepsister). Molly and Michael are disappointed to leave everything they knew and loved behind. At their new house (it’s a church), Molly is frightened by the graveyard because something is not right there. After they settle, Heather talks to a ghost named Helen. Heather tells Molly and Michael that Helen is after them to make them sorry for “tormenting” her. Will Molly save Heather from this sinister force that might be controlling Heather?
My thoughts
I was excited to read this book because I liked the Ghost of Crutchfield Hall, and I thought this book would be fantastic! The moment I read the first page, the story hooked me. It didn’t disappoint me. Mary Downing Hann created a suspenseful atmosphere, though the story is spooky but not scary.
My favorite character is the sinister ghost Helen; she is very intriguing and tragic. Ashamed of her tragic past, Helen goes to great lengths to find a true friend. On the other hand, Molly is very poetic and sweet. Against all odds, Molly would do anything to protect her family.
Though, I wish that Wait Till Helen Comes should’ve added more detail about Helen’s backstory because I wanted to know more about her. I desired a pattern like one chapter Molly, the next Heather, and so on.
I also watched the movie after the book, and the book is way better.
