Will Violet overcome her doubts about God?

Violet, a seventh grader, is facing an important year ahead. She is preparing for her Confirmation at church, but she is troubled by doubts about God’s existence. Her concerns are compounded by her new science teacher, Mr. Adams, who seems to plant seeds of doubt. One thing is for sure: this year will be filled with drama, and Violet must embark on a journey to find her faith.

Although I hadn’t read the first two books in the Violet Jenkins series, I was immediately drawn into this latest installment. The book made me want to read the first two after reading it. One aspect that resonated with me was Violet’s journey through her Confirmation, as I am also preparing for my Confirmation, Baptism, and Eucharist in my church. It felt comforting to see a character navigating similar spiritual milestones.

Violet Jenkins is a wonderfully relatable and intelligent protagonist. Her struggles and triumphs throughout the book make her feel like a genuine friend rather than just a character on a page. I particularly enjoyed her relationship with Obala, who is portrayed as incredibly sweet and supportive. Obala’s kindness adds a warm dynamic to the story that I found refreshing.

Sofia, on the other hand, is a bit more spunky and lively. I appreciate her vibrant personality. I did not like Jett too much as he wasn’t very nice.

This book is not just for avid readers of the Violet Jenkins series; it also serves as a beacon of hope for anyone going through significant life changes or challenges, especially those experiencing rites of passage similar to Violet’s. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to both fans of the series and newcomers alike, as it beautifully captures themes of faith, friendship, and personal growth.
