A girl’s family life is changing before her eyes, and mysterious notes are being sent to her.

Tessa Wright, a seventh-grader, has had a lot of good times with her friends and family. Though, there will be a significant change in her family life: her mother will have a baby. Tessa did not want things to change, and there was another thing to consider. Someone is sending her mysterious notes, but who? Will Tessa overcome those challenges?

This book is a great mystery book; I was intrigued and hooked to discover the identity of the mysterious notes’ writer. But the story is not just about the mystery; it’s also a good story about friendship and getting a new family member. I understood how Tessa felt (since I’m the elder sibling of my family, although I don’t remember my sister’s birth since I was 2 and a half at that time). I also felt a bit sorry for her parents because having a new member in the family would put Tessa in a different position, which might impact their relationship.
The descriptions of the notes are excellent and spine-tingling. I put myself in the shoes of the “Wright” detective and tried to follow along and solve the mystery.

Tessa is a hard-working, sporty person. She is good at solving mysteries, and I know she will be an excellent big sister. Her friends tend to bicker among themselves about trivial matters such as Skylar’s new boyfriend, Ethan. Her parents were lovely as well.

The theme of The Mysterious Locker Notes is always to strive to do your best. I recommend this book to mystery lovers and teens in middle school.

PS: About the author: In her words, “Growing up immersed in beloved “Teen” novels, Kelly now crafts her own sweet stories that bridge the gap between middle grade and young adult fiction that is so often forgotten but so sorely needed in the market today. In fact, she is so passionate about bridging this gap that she founded the imprint Link Press, dedicated to bringing these stories back to young readers.”

I love this; as a teenager (13), I still love middle-grade books, but I would like to jump to the next level; as a beginner young adult, the subjects are sometimes too much about high school stuff, romance (which is ok but not too much).

My rating

Rating: 5 out of 5.

About the author

“Kelly Swan Taylor is the author of the popular young adult novel The Winning Ingredient and the sleuthy middle grade series The Wright Detective. When she’s not concocting unique recipes in her kitchen or hovering over her keyboard, this attorney and former laboratory scientist spends her time as a competitive runner. With experience racing from sun-drenched Hawaii to frigid Iceland, her first publishing credit was in Simon & Schuster’s best-selling book series, Chicken Soup for the Soul, Running for Good, highlighting the historic 2013 and 2014 Boston Marathons.” – Amazon.
