My summary of the book

A twelve-year-old, Gwendolyn Gray is not like the other children in The City: she has an imagination. In The City, if you were like Gwendolyn, you might attract the attention of the Faceless Gentlemen. When she wandered off to her fantasy, she accidentally turned a classmate’s ears into rabbit ones. The Faceless Gentlemen want to erase Gwendolyn to preserve order in The City. Gwendolyn soon befriends mysterious kids called Sparrow and Starling to help end the Faceless Gentlemen’s cruel reign.

My thoughts

I read a lot across the board, though I have to confess that it is my first dystopian book.

This is your book if you want to escape to different worlds filled with creative inventions, pirates, magic, and villains. That’s not to say that there was action in the story. Several battles thrilled me.

My favorite character is Gwendolyn because she reminds me of myself. She is so brave and unique. After all, I am imaginative and like to wander into my imagination.

Sparrow was the joker of this book because he told the funniest jokes. The jokes were whimsical. I like Starling’s mimicking other people’s voices; it was a bit downright scary but good.

Throughout the book, the author comments about the story or asks a question. It’s like the author was talking to me.

Overall, a marvelous adventure that will transport you into imaginary worlds.

My rating

Rating: 4 out of 5.

About the author

“B. A. Williamson is the overly caffeinated writer of The Chronicles of Gwendolyn Gray. When not doing battle with the demons in the typewriter, he can be found wandering Indianapolis with his family, singing in a tuxedo, or taming middle-schoolers and actors.” – Book Depository.
