My brief summary of the book
Ivy is an orphan living in castle Plum as a Scauldron maid. One day, she is kicked out of the castle with her Scauldron. They wind up in the Halls of Ivy, a magical school. Ivy is curious about an empty journal that she found at the school, but she is forbidden to read it. Will she find out the truth behind the journal?
My thoughts
I was curious and anxious at the end of the book because I was afraid that Ivy might get in trouble, and I wanted to know what happens next! It’s written with magic and mystery; that’s what kept me reading the book. It also reminds me of Harry Potter.

About the author
“One of the first creatures I dreamt up for Croswald was a hairie. I was driving home from a spontaneous trip to Orlando (Disney, of course!) with one of my closest friends, Melissa. On our drive home, I was sharing my newest story ideas with her––this was very early on and when I had just started writing. I remember she asked me, “How do people in Croswald read at night?” And a vision of hairies popped into my head. Little, furry, nosey fairies who love human interaction and have hair that glows when they are interested in what they see.” – Goodreads.
