Roddie’s mom recently passed away, and after two months of living at an orphanage, Roddie’s aunt, Angie, decided to take him in. Aunt Angie is always traveling, but to take care of Roddie, she chooses to settle in her old childhood home, Dogwood House. Unfortunately, the house is in disrepair, so Aunt Angie is fixing it up. And there is also this strange lingering scent in the air… While Aunt Angie is trying to restore and preserve Dogwood’s house, she is also trying to maintain the old “Hoodoo” traditions, like setting a memorial for Roddie’s mom or stranger yet burning hair. What are all of these traditions for, and what secrets lie beneath Dogwood House?

This book was so good! All the characters, from Roddie to Aunt Angie and even Aunt Angie’s boyfriend Erik, were a delight to read about. The plot was fascinating, and I found myself constantly turning the page to see what was going to happen next. My only complaint was that it took a while for the plot to start, but besides that, this book was perfect. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good horror fiction novel that will have you hooked until the end.
