My brief summary of the book
A sweet young boy, Jack loves his childhood toy, a plush pig called Dur Pig or “DP.” Jack’s life starts to change: his father and mother got divorced, and her mother wants to marry her boyfriend called Brendan. Brendan has a daughter named Holly. Holly has a hard time to adjust the new situation, and she is very horrible to Jack. On Christmas Eve, Holly threw DP out the window of the car. Holly tries to make it up by buying Jack the same pig plush as DP. Jack doesn’t like him because it’s not the same as DP and calls him the Christmas pig or “CP.” But Christmas Eve is a night for miracles and toys to come to life! The new pig CP comes to life too and wants to help Jack find DP. So, they venture on a magical adventure to save Jack’s beloved pig.
My thoughts
What a story! Be ready; the beginning is very emotional and sad, but after a couple of chapters, the story takes a magical turn and is full of actions.
I wouldn’t say I liked Jack a first that much because he has a ferocious and bad temper. I liked DP because he reminds me of my teddy bear (His name is Nounours which is French for Teddy Bear). I was appalled by Holly’s behavior towards Jack. Overall, it was a very creative story, and the illustrations were beautiful; I wish there were more of them.
My rating
Do your tween still have a childhood stuffed animal? Paige still has one, and she loves him 😉
