My summary of the book
After King Edward VI had died, Princess Mary became the Queen of England. Queen Mary forced Rose Ashley to leave Princess Elizabeth to serve her as her dress designer. The Queen’s coronation is coming up, so it would be a lot of work for Rose. Since Mary ascended to the throne, she planned to rid England of all the Protestants. Every single one of them. Rose’s father, Nicholas Oliver, urges Rose not to return, but Rose will not leave without her father and her friend, Franny. Meanwhile, in the 21st century, a Bolivian immigrant named Marisol is in danger of the mean queens and the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Will Rose solve the problems of both centuries before it’s too late?
My thoughts
I was ecstatic about this second book in the series “Tangled in time” because it was about one of my favorite monarchs: Mary I. Travelling in the Tudor times is so entertaining. I learned more about the royal court of Mary I than I ever did before. I had fun imagining the beautiful dresses and Queen Mary’s marriage to Prince Philip of Spain.
However, I still didn’t particularly appreciate how the book misrepresented Mary and was irritated by the mean queens. I liked Marisol, for I believe that she is a sweet, kind, and intelligent girl.
I hope that Kathryn Lasky wrote the third book in the series!
