My summary of the book

Today, monarch butterflies migrate to San Gregorio, and almost princess Solimar did something forbidden: she crossed the river and went into the Oyamel forest to get a closer look at the butterflies. The butterflies swarm around her, and somehow, she becomes clairvoyance. As it turns out, the butterflies chose her to carry unready butterflies with her shawl or rebozo. But she must keep it safe from the wrong hands. Her kingdom is in danger of getting occupied by King Aveno, and she must warn her father before it’s too late.

My thoughts

I’ve already read Esperanza Rising from Mrs. Ryan in fifth grade. As I loved it, I was excited to read this book. The story was terrific and well-written; good descriptions of the kingdom, and the story was adventurous with all of its ups and downs. Solimar was tomboy and courageous. If she could, I think she has what it takes to rule San Gregorio someday. There was a note in the end about monarch butterflies.

My rating

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
