My summary of the book
Addy has always been looking for escape routes. After all, Addy’s parents died in a fire, so her grandmother from Nigeria has raised Addy since then. Addy and the other kids (Jay, Nessa, A’leia, Kelvin, and Deshon) enjoy the camp’s wilderness during summer break. Then, disaster strikes. A forest fire breaks out, and everyone is separated. With only her wilderness skills to protect her, Addy must face her fears and lead the other campers to safety.
My thoughts
Wow, what an inspiring and emotional story. Some parts made you want to cry, laugh in joy, or both.
The book taught me a lot about what is happening in the environment and how fires are becoming more common. It also taught me how to initiate and safely put out campfires.
Addy is wise, courageous, and autonomous. Addy didn’t hesitate to help save as many lives as possible when the danger was there.
All in all, Paradise on Fire teaches me a lot about what nature means to us.
