Olka works for Josey, and after being rude to him countless times, she is surprised she isn’t fired, but in the end, they fall in love with each other. Josey proposes to her, but before they can wed, the Nazis take over, and they end up being separated before they can be together.
Alex, a young boy, despises opportunities; he views them more as punishments than rewards. However, after an incident that leads to him being unable to live with his mom, he is compelled to do community service at Shady Glen’s retirement home and live with his aunt, who doesn’t want him there. At Shady Glen, he is required to work for the bossy Maya-Jade. But after an encounter with the oldest resident, Josey, his life begins to change, and his time at Shady Glen starts to feel more like an opportunity than a punishment.
The book was incredibly moving, evoking such powerful emotions that it brought tears to my eyes. The skillful writing not only captivated me but also stirred me deep inside. Each character was portrayed with such depth and uniqueness, but it was Alex who truly captured my heart with his endearing nature and struggles with anger. The story itself was a poignant and beautiful journey, weaving together heartwarming and heartbreaking moments.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone in search of a touching and emotionally resonant read.
