One graphic novel, two reviews.

A monster girl wants to find her place in the world.

In a world where monsters called horrors exist and are feared, Mr. Halloway brings the horrors to a haven, Mr. Halloway’s home for horrors. The only rule is to stay in the mansion and do your chores.
Iris, a monster girl, always wanted to find where she belonged, even though the world was sometimes not so kind to horrors like her.
Iris always wonders what the outside world is like, but her opportunity comes when a self-proclaimed monster hunter, Mathias, breaks the seal, blocking them from leaving the house. Dahlia, another horror, goes missing soon after it was opened. So it’s up to Iris, Agnes (the housekeeper), and Kel (Iris’ friend) to find Dahlia. The more Iris ventures into the human world, the more she realizes what kind of monster she is.

Paige’s thoughts:
This book is set in a mansion with all kinds of horrors you’ve heard of, like kappas, gorgons, trolls, etc. There is also a wacky town with wacky people in it. The backstories in the story were well-executed, and the drawing style was terrific.

Iris is a quirky and funny character. I enjoyed her silly antics throughout the story. Mr. Halloway (the caretaker of the monsters) is a relatable character. Dahila is a creative and a little misunderstood character. Mathias was a bit of a weird character. Agnes is very matronly. Kel is a compassionate character.

This book tackles the theme of being accepted in society, finding somewhere you belong, etc.

Give this book to anyone who loves a quirky, fantastic story.

Laly’s thoughts:
The story is terrific, and the art is fantastic.
I love how a plot twist appears whenever you feel you are getting close to the end. This helps keep the story very entertaining.
Iris is pretty despite being a bit blue. She is curious and has a bubbly personality. Her friend Kel is friendly and likes to help people. Agnes is responsible and wants to do things by the book. Dahlia was my favorite. She is artistic and wants to be somewhere where she is accepted.
The mansion sounds like a nice place to live where you’ll never get lonely or bored.
Overall, this is a fantastic graphic novel for anyone looking for a Halloween graphic novel.

My rating
