My brief summary of the book
A magical and wise older woman, Luna has a good life in her flourishing olive grove. A poor, rude young man named Mario trespassed her fine olive grove. Luna knew that the man was suffering from poverty and hunger. So, she told Mario to build her an enormous wall made of large stones in exchange for good food. Will Mario change his ways, or will he keep being the selfish man he is?
My thoughts
Mario and The Stones is a magnificent fable to read. It’s a short story that teaches a lesson and has a magical cat. The illustrations are fun and cartoony. I loved learning more about Italian culture, and I even learned some Italian words. This book brought me a ray of sunshine from Italy.
The author added at the end some actual pictures that inspired her and some Italian references and acknowledgments.
