“Confidence, swell, and touching.”
My summary of the book
Jillian, a fifth grader, has always blended in with the other kids at Jemison elementary. Unusually shy, Jillian struggles to “break out of her shell.” Soon, her teacher, Mrs. W, brought eggs waiting to be hatched. Another event was also coming up too: Mindbender, a school competition. Now Jillian wants to stand out for her good and others.
My thoughts
This book was swell! I had the same chicks experience in kindergarten, and I loved relearning about the chicks growing inside the eggs. It also talked about weaving, and I would love to learn to do it too. Jillian needs to “pip” at her shell and hatch in confidence. It’s incredible to see how Jillian grows in courage throughout the book. I recommend this book to girls and boys who need to develop their confidence and the courage to speak up.
