My summary of the book

Hà and her family (except her missing father) must leave Vietnam after years of war. This is her story of moving to America and trying to fit in at school.

My thoughts

A touching story of a refugee’s perspective coming to America. She is so brave; She had to leave everything behind and rebuild everything (the language, culinary experiences, the school education, and stand up for herself). It’s an easy and fast reading because it’s written in free verse. It’s also a humorous book filled with jokes, especially when she learns English.

My rating

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
