One graphic novel, two reviews.
A boy the size of a teacup wants to find the perfect school where he will have friends.
Ember, an orphan, wishes for a school where everyone is kind. But that is not the case until a twist of fate, where he meets Lua, a sea turtle. Lua tells him about a school everyone can attend on an island. So, Lua takes him there. The school is filled with unexpected things, and Ember must learn to adapt to his new school life.
Paige’s thoughts: The story is adorable and teaches much about kindness. The art was fun, colorful, and very cartoony. Nice, large panels that perfectly capture the setting.
I loved Ember’s little journal, where he drew his life thus far.
Ember is a very quirky and selfless character. He is also not afraid to be himself. Lua was very kind. The teacher was funny, and I didn’t like Viggo, the bully.
Laly’s thoughts: This book shows that not everyone can fit in. Ember also had a bully, Viggo, who was lame, cowardly, and cruel to some wildlife. He kept teasing Ember about his clothes and coming up with the lamest insult (like turtle-boy). This book was a delightful story filled with tiny people. (I love little things). A quick and great read! I loved it so much that I already read it two times!
Give this book to anyone who loves an inspiring story about friendship.
