My summary of the book

Eddie Lewin turning 13, needs to do a community project for his Bar Mitzvah. Eddie’s mother makes him do a volunteering gig in a place for the elderly called Silver Brook Pavilion. Eddie thinks it would be boring unless his best friend Tessa is here. Then disaster strikes, some of the elders had lost their most valuable possessions! The elders are looking for someone to blame, and the blame falls on Eddie. Eddie and Tessa must find the thief before Eddie gets arrested by the authorities.

My thoughts

This story was very mysterious. I couldn’t find out who the thief was, but I always know that it’s always the person you least suspected. There was also a rumor about a ghost haunting the place stealing things, but the idea was funny and ridiculous.

The story was not only mysterious but also action-packed and ingenious! Eddie’s little sister creates a spy camera to catch the thief! This is proved effective in catching the thief.

The story was emotional too. Throughout the book, Eddie grows so much, and it’s moving to see before your eyes how he becomes a better person by discovering a new world through the “old seniors.” Over time, Eddie learns to love the name “Eddie Whatever” that the old residents gave to him if “he doesn’t stay.”

My Suggestions

I would highly recommend this book to tweens interested in the Jewish culture and who are in middle school. It’s more character-driven than a plot-driven book because the emotion drives the story, which could happen in real-life.

I also recommend this book to tweens who like light mystery and about friendships with old seniors.

My rating

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
