A delightful story of a young Taiwanese American girl trying to save her favorite boba tea shop.

Pearl Li loves making amigurumi crochet dolls, but her family is more of the tech type. The only admirers of her art are her friends and the Boba Time shop owner Auntie Cha. In summer, Pearl and her family eat breakfast at Mama Yang’s, where Pearl hears that Boba Time will close as soon as the refrigerator breaks down! No way is Pearl going to let that happen! Pearl must set up a stall at the Handmade Craft fair to raise money for a new refrigerator.

I am such a huge fan of Boba Tea! My first Boba tea was a mocha one; it was so delicious! The straws were wide enough to support the tapioca pearls, and it was a fun drink. So when the publisher asked me if I would like to review a book about Boba tea, I was ecstatic!

Auntie Cha is one of the sweetest and most peculiar people you’ll ever meet. Pearl is very crafty and skilled at needlework. Her amigurumi dolls sound fantastic, and I’m also thinking of making my own. However, her mother always kept talking down on Pearl’s crafts, which made me a little sad for Pearl.

I learn from this story that turning your passion into a profitable business is more challenging than it looks, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try! I admire Pearl Li’s perseverance.

The theme of It’s Boba Time for Pearl Li! is to keep crafting your goals, and you’ll succeed! I recommend this book to people who enjoy funny, tender family stories, creating your own business, crafting (crocheting), and are boba tea lovers!
