My brief summary of the book

In the winter of Salem village, trouble is brewing. Some of the girls of the town started acting weird. Many people by the day are getting accused of being the witches who are supposedly hurting the “afflicted” girls. Mary Chase and her widow mother Virginia Chase are getting caught in the middle of this witch-hysteria.  Soon enough, Mary’s mother got accused of being a witch. Now it’s up to Mary and her brother Caleb to save their mother from being condemned to death.

My thoughts

The perspective is in the third person omniscient, which is different from other historical fiction books I used to read. I knew the story already, and I read a couple of non-fiction books about this subject. So, I found the story a little bit confusing with the fictional characters.

The book was informative about the Salem Witch Trials, compelling fiction with sometimes too long descriptions. It has some scary moments and spine-chilling parts. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book.

My rating

Rating: 4 out of 5.
