A boy whose father suffers plenty of painful changes learns to cope with this tremendous shift in his life.

ZJ’s father is everyone’s football hero, but to ZJ, he is his beloved father. Though recently, things started changing for his father. He starts to forget things and has massive migraines. ZJ wants nothing more than to have his father get better again. But once those changes occur, will ZJ’s father be the same man he once was?

This book is centered on the subject of CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy), a brain disease that still has yet to have a cure. This book (in verse) was very poetic and emotional at the same time.

ZJ is a kindhearted boy and a talented songwriter. The snippets of songs in the book were extraordinary! ZJ’s father is a man with good intentions. I only hoped for the best for ZJ’s father. ZJ also has good friends that always got his back. I loved their friend group, The Fantastic Four!

The theme of Before the Ever After is like everything; even success comes with a price tag. It was a unique perspective on fame and sports. Beautifully written and moving story; please visit your library or buy this book; you won’t regret it.
