My brief summary of the book

A gorilla named Ivan lives in a shopping mall with his friends Stella (an old elephant) and Bob (a dog). A baby elephant named Ruby joined them. Stella asked Ivan to promise her that he would take Ruby somewhere safe. Will Ivan be able to keep his promise and take care of Ruby?

My thoughts

The One and Only Ivan book is inspired by a true story of a captive gorilla named Ivan in a mall in America.

The One and Only Ivan’s cover is adorable. The story made me sad and hopeful at the same time. A tale of friendship and hope, the book is well-written. The story is told from Ivan’s point of view. It’s a fascinating insight into how life might be if you were a captive gorilla. You have lovely illustrations throughout the book. This is, overall, a heartwarming and touching book.

My rating

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
