Emma tries to navigate through her new life at ARCA Academy.
Emma Blakely, a preteen girl, is starting her first year at ARCA Academy, a boarding school in Boston. She feels timid and nervous because everything is new, and she doesn’t know anyone in the school. However, Emma’s life improves when she meets Jenny, and they quickly become best friends. Despite dealing with some mean girls, especially Camille, Emma is not alone as she has her new friend by her side. Throughout her journey at ARCA Academy, Emma will encounter unexpected friends and face challenges that will help her grow.
This particular book was an absolute delight to read. The author’s (13-year-old) vibrant imagination was evident in every sentence, and the well-crafted story kept me hooked from beginning to end. As someone who speaks French, I was thrilled to come across some French words in the story that added to the book’s charm. One character, an adorable beagle named Max, stole my heart with his cuteness, and it was incredibly endearing since I also have a beagle named Walnut.
The book’s central theme about the importance of friendship and second chances was wonderfully portrayed through the characters. Emma, initially timid, gradually opened up to others and revealed her imaginative and kind personality. Jenny’s quirky personality and love for BTS made her a relatable and likable character. On the other hand, Camille wasn’t the kindest person at first and had a sneaky side to her. However, her character arc showed that people can change for the better and deserve second chances.
Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to be inspired by the power of friendship and the value of second chances. The author’s masterful storytelling and relatable characters make this a must-read for anyone who loves a heartwarming story.
