“Mysterious, time-travel and Spellbinding.“

My brief summary of the book

Adam, a shy 12-year-old boy, lost his parent in a plane crash. He now lives with his Uncle Henry, who owns a bakery (the Biscuit Basket), but things are about to change. His pet mouse, Speedy, has passed away, and a strange man in a raincoat tells him that a wonderful thing would happen if he just looked in his uncle’s attic. Adam did and found a mysterious snow globe. He shook it one day, and Poof! Adam is in the 1930s and then in the 1960s. Will Adam uncover the mysteries of this snow globe?

My thoughts

Wow, what an awe-inspiring book! This book has it all: magic, time-traveling, resolving mysteries, fast-paced adventure, beautiful descriptions, and well-written.

I recently discovered that I love time travel stories, and I’m envious that Adam could go back in time with just one shake. Come on, who wouldn’t want to go back in time?

I liked Adam; he is a sweet, sympathetic, and shy boy.

I would like to thank Ms. Schmidt as well because No Ordinary Thing has taught me some lessons about life, for which I’m eternally grateful.

Please don’t hesitate to borrow this book from the library or buy it! It was that good!

“G. Z. Schmidt was born in China and immigrated to the United States when she was six. She grew up in the Midwest and the South where she chased fireflies, listened for tornado warnings, and pursued a love of reading. In the third grade, she began writing stories in a spiral-bound notebook, and never looked back. No Ordinary Thing is her debut novel. Her second novel The Dreamweavers is forthcoming in Fall 2021.
